About University

Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand technical university(VMSBUTU) was established on 27th January 2005 by the Government of Uttarakhand under the Uttarakhand Technical University Act 2005. The university is located at NH-72, Suddhowala, Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, and is well-connected via rail, road, and air transport.

Spanning over an area of 8.372 hectares, UTU is the only affiliating technical university in the state of Uttarakhand, overseeing both constituent and affiliated colleges. It has 8 campus institutes  and 132 affiliated institutions, with a student population of 33,000 enrolled in a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional courses.

About College

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Institute of Technology (AKIT), located in Tanakpur, Champawat district, is one of the campus institutes of Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), Dehradun. Established in 2016 by the Government of Uttarakhand, the institute was founded with the aim of promoting technical education in the region. The institute focuses on producing world-class technocrats and entrepreneurs to contribute to the advancement of society.

Academic Disciplines

AKIT offers undergraduate education in the following six disciplines:

  1. B.Tech Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
  2. B.Tech Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI & ML)
  3. B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  4. B.Tech Robotics & Automation (R & A)

In addition to its existing technical programs, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Institute of Technology (AKIT), Tanakpur, has also introduced the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) program. This inclusion expands the institute’s academic offerings, providing more opportunities for students to pursue careers in computer applications and software development.

The BCA program is designed to give students a comprehensive foundation in computer science, programming languages, and software development, preparing them for careers in the IT industry.

The intake capacity for the Computer Science & Engineering program is 120 students, while each of the other branches has an intake of 60 students. The diverse curriculum is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
